Our youngest My Gym students begin their first visual, audial and spatial exploration as our precious Little Bundles, while their parents are guided through a program designed to carefully introduce music and movement in a variety of fun ways. Baby exercises, songs, dances, infant-safe rides, unique swings, and many other Parent & Me adventures await the infant-parent team. This fun and movement class also includes a brief parent discussion element. Each week, during this 45- minute program, parents participate in a dialogue about their children's development and leave with informative handouts.
As the babies gain hand, arm and trunk control and become mobile, we introduce new and stimulating activities. Our experienced teachers are sensitive to the strong emotional attachment these little ones are developing with their mothers, and each parent/child unit is nurtured according to their specific needs. Our Tiny Tykes and their parents are led through a variety of beginning stretches, exercises, infant songs and dances, baby-safe rides and adventures, balance and agility skills, and introductory tumbling during this 45-minute program. A relationship to movement and physical activity begins to develop, as our Tiny Tykes discover their natural abilities and enhance their physical and cognitive development.
This stimulating 1-hour program introduces balancing, tumbling, hanging and agility skills, which helps the children develop a love of physical activity and a sense of pride in their achievements. At this age, a child’s level of independent mobility will typically progress from aggressive crawling to running. Additional fine and gross motor skills developed during this stage include kicking a ball, building a block tower, riding a tricycle, and walking up stairs. Our highly trained instructors shower the children with affection, as they guide our Waddlers in early social skills through interactive songs, choreographed dances, age-specific puppet shows, special rides, and a variety of swings and other original activities.
The gross motor abilities of early 2-year-olds are often characterized by more confident running, jumping on two feet, and an overall improved spatial awareness of their bodies. This is the earliest age group with which we work on fine and gross manipulatives in a structured format, as the 2 to 2 1/2-year-olds' attention span grows, allowing the child to focus for longer periods of time. During this 1-hour program, the youngsters are elated as they sing, dance, swing, play games, watch puppet shows, take turns on special rides, and have 'Surprise Time!' Our Gymsters feel great about themselves as they learn gymnastics in a constantly changing program with fresh ingredients and new equipment setups each week.
In addition to having fun with structured games, fascinating adventures and pre-gymnastics, our Terrific Tots learn beginning sports skills, gain fine and gross motor proficiency, and strengthen manipulative skills. The youngsters become more independent as teachers are now interacting more directly with them. Parental involvement is gradually decreased through inviting activities with love and understanding, and the children exude pride and self-esteem as they are treated like 'big kids.' In this age group, teaching physical skills is a top priority. During this 1-hour program, the development of social skills is also emphasized, as the youngsters become good listeners, follow directions, cooperate in a group, and learn more about themselves.
This parent participation class introduces elements of movement, creative expression, and ballet to prepare children for our independent Pre-Ballet classes. The children learn and repeat basic ballet moves until they can be performed independently and acknowledge them with their French names. They learn to sequence basic moves together along with some creative expression to learn a dance every 5-7 weeks. Leotards and ballet shoes are welcome but not required.
With greater independence comes the ability to participate without the parent, and our Mighty Mites are lavished with positive reinforcement for self-reliance and following directions. Strength, flexibility, and agility are increased, as our teachers introduce gymnastic skills with the safest spotting techniques and communication through language geared to build self-esteem and confidence. Sensitive to peer pressure, these 3-year-olds are nurtured so tenderly and always with a success-oriented approach. Relays, more complex games, and beginning sports skills lead to increased strength, enhanced manipulative ability, and improved hand-eye coordination during this 1-hour program.
This class incorporates elements of ballet, creative expression, movement, and time to explore the gym. The children learn and repeat basic ballet moves and acknowledge them with their french names. They learn to sequence the moves together along with some creative expression to learn a dance every 5-7 weeks. This class also has some time dedicated to basic gymnastics skills. In keeping with the My Gym tradition, our dance curriculum helps 3 and 4 year olds learn, grow, and have fun!
When children have mastered the basic moves and discipline necessary to be successful in ballet, they are ready for our Pre-Ballet 2 class. This class builds on the foundation of what was learned in Pre-Ballet 1. Dancers are now ready to sequence various moves together and learn more challenging steps. They also have now learned enough to learn a choreographed dance approximately every 5-7 weeks.
The All Stars sports program is a fundamentals-driven program in which children learn the basic elements and rules of sports as well as play a scaled-down version of the sport inside My Gym facilities. Children will participate in and learn the fundamentals and rules for each sport for four consecutive weeks. In addition to the actual sport, the children will also learn about and participate in weekly cardio and strength training stations.
These children are now ready to refine and master basic gross motor skills such as running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing, kicking and catching. Designed to prepare a child for group sports and instill a sense of confidence in connection with physical activity, our Whiz Kids program emphasizes each of these important skills. The children build strength, balance, agility, flexibility and coordination in this 1-hour program, as our instructors maintain a positive, supportive and noncompetitive atmosphere. Our Whiz Kids are showered with praise as they develop perseverance and self-control.
In this class, children will dance to current kid-friendly hits, while learning about movement, rhythm, and style. Along with a traditional warm up, this class also has a Zumba type warm up providing a high energy cardio routine. Dancers will also learn a choreographed hip-hop dance every 5-7 weeks. While learning specific moves, they will start to discover their personal dancing style and will create their own dance moves during "Freestyle" time.
This is the first age group at My Gym where perfecting form and mastering sports and gymnastic skills become priorities. During this 1.25-hour program, the children learn to work hard and aim toward a goal. As with all our older classes, the Champions program is fast-paced and completely structured with organized ingredients throughout the hour. Many of our Champions are involved in organized sports in parks and schools or study dance or martial arts. This class introduces a wide range of physical skills and cooperative group activities in preparation for these outside activities. We emphasize effort, diligence and a spirit of camaraderie, as our Champions are taught the meaning of fair play and teamwork.
My Gym has created a program that combines a cardio workout with strength and flexibility exercises for children who are now at the age when they are surrounded by the sedentary distractions of TV, the Internet and video games. Endurance and gross motor skills are increased through a series of exciting and dynamic activities. As we focus on specific muscle groups, utilize a 4-station circuit-training course, and add fun nutritional tips, our goal in this 1-hour program is to instill health and fitness as a way of life. All children, regardless of their athletic abilities, will benefit greatly from My Gym's Cardio Kids program.
Each week, children currently enrolled in a class may attend any of our 45-minute members-only Practice & Play sessions. Members not currently enrolled may attend for $10 each.
