Meet the Owner – Chris Uy

My name is Chris Uy and I am the owner of the My Gym Children’s Fitness Center coming to Nanuet. I first discovered My Gym researching preschools for my daughter (Summer). I knew immediately by the atmosphere and vibes I felt upon entering that it was going to be a great place. The space and colors, equipment quality and organization, friendly and compassionate staff, plus cleanliness made the decision easy to enroll her. Attaining dual Bachelors of Science degrees in Exercise Science/Athletic Training and Health Education helped me critically analyze the curriculum and truly appreciate the thought process and care needed to create it. The balance between structured instruction and self-discovery through purposeful play, community and fun is why Summer is enrolled in My Gym Dobbs Ferry, Westchester County today! And my nephew (Elad) is enrolled in My Gym Fresh Meadows, Queens too! As a personal fitness trainer, I truly love watching her get stronger and grow with her My Gym friends. The joy I experience when I witness Summer and her friends take the next step in their development is unparalleled. 

Since 2000, I worked at two of the most luxurious health clubs - The Sports Club / LA and Equinox Fitness Clubs in Manhattan as a fitness manager and personal trainer. I attended the University of Mount Saint Vincent on a full 4-year scholarship which provided me the opportunity to student-teach junior high school in the South Bronx and student-athletic train at Fordham University. In my early teens, I was an office clerk at the office where my mom worked in Manhattan and then did maintenance in a small 1-on-1 fitness training studio nearby. While attending college, I worked at GNC as a sales associate and did freelance personal training for kids ages 5-15. Competing in various organized sports played an important role in keeping me fit while teaching me the value of time management. Entering the workforce at a young age gave a me head start on my career path leading me directly to My Gym. I remember completing a questionnaire in high school to help figure out possible careers to pursue. My result - GYM OWNER!

I am a New Yorker! I was born and raised in Queens, worked all my life in Manhattan, moved to the Bronx for school, go to Brooklyn for fun, relax on Long Island for the beaches, currently live in Yonkers with my family, and now I'm working my way up to Nanuet! I enjoy taking my family to the Palisades Center, shopping at The Shops at Nanuet, playing pool at Diamond Jim's with friends, and winning prizes at Chuck E. Cheese with Summer. 

When I am not focusing on My Gym, I love to meditate, hone my craft as a personal trainer through exercise exploration, and simply be with my family.

I am very excited to bring My Gym to Nanuet and get to know all of your families. I can’t wait to meet you!
