My Gym was born out of our passion to teach children in a fun, physically engaging environment. We delighted in seeing children's eyes light up for all those incredible milestones, from the tentative first steps to tumbling down soft mats. Sharing the parents’ excitement at their children’s accomplishments was the high point of our day.
Picture this: In 1983, three fitness enthusiasts—Yacov, Susi Sherman, and Bill Caplin—redefined children's fitness by blending dance, gymnastics, and athletics. That's the birth of My Gym! Their mission: create a space just for kids—no more sharing mom's or dad's gym, but My Gym. With backgrounds in dance, gymnastics, and athletics, they crafted a unique fitness curriculum focused on non-competitive skill building for ages 6 weeks to 14 years. Fast forward: Cory and Monique turned My Gym into a franchise sensation in 1994. The success was undeniable, growing from 100 kids to over 400 in a year. Now a global phenomenon, My Gym is consistently ranked the #1 children's program worldwide.

Vanessa has been working for the My Gym franchise now for many years as a head teacher connecting with not only the children, but also each mother, father, sibling, and nanny. She is very excited to take all of those experiences and bring them to all three Brooklyn locations. She can’t wait to meet all our new friends, putting a smile on their faces, and watching each child individually develop and build confidence that will help to guide them through life. Ever since Vanessa was a little girl, she would pretend she was a teacher and her three younger siblings were her students. For hours, she would help teach them how to spell their names, how to tie their shoes, and together, they would work on basic math skills such as how to add and subtract. Her mother, who is a teacher in early childhood education, helped inspire Vanessa to become a teacher, which she absolutely loves! To her, teaching has always been a passion, but the love she has for our current generation of children helping make a difference is what she stays true to. Vanessa believes building confidence in every child is just as important as generating trust. She bases most of her teaching style around those things. She is also a firm believer on imagination, creativity, exploration, and fun! Born and raised in New York City, Vanessa is proud to be of mixed ethnicities.
Sokhna has been at My Gym for over 4 years now and has fallen in love with teaching the children different skills, arts, and gymnastics! Her childhood coaches (track, softball, dance) are who inspired her passion for working with children and helping them build confidence while learning new skills! Her favorite part is interacting with the children and seeing how much more intelligent they are than most people would think and also the excitement the children get when they learn something new! She plans to grow with the company along with the children which is also another one of her favorite things to see...their growth!
Stanley became a lead teacher at My Gym in October of 2022. For his birthday, he decided he wanted to start a new chapter in his life, and when he stumbled upon My Gym, he knew this opportunity would be perfect. Stanley’s smiles are contagious, and his love for teaching shows whenever he’s on the gym floor. Stanley is energetic and super athletic, and I bet you didn’t know he was once a wrestler! He loves to spread love and enjoys working with children of all ages. Feel free to ask Stanley anything you like!
