My Gym was born out of our passion to teach children in a fun, physically engaging environment. We delighted in seeing children's eyes light up for all those incredible milestones, from the tentative first steps to tumbling down soft mats. Sharing the parents’ excitement at their children’s accomplishments was the high point of our day.
Picture this: In 1983, three fitness enthusiasts—Yacov, Susi Sherman, and Bill Caplin—redefined children's fitness by blending dance, gymnastics, and athletics. That's the birth of My Gym! Their mission: create a space just for kids—no more sharing mom's or dad's gym, but My Gym. With backgrounds in dance, gymnastics, and athletics, they crafted a unique fitness curriculum focused on non-competitive skill building for ages 6 weeks to 14 years. Fast forward: Cory and Monique turned My Gym into a franchise sensation in 1994. The success was undeniable, growing from 100 kids to over 400 in a year. Now a global phenomenon, My Gym is consistently ranked the #1 children's program worldwide.

Evan WachtOwner
Evan has been working for the My Gym Franchise since 2015. Starting as a teacher at a location in Manhattan, Evan knew that My Gym was the place for him. He decided to branch out and, from these experiences, start his own My Gym franchise here in Brooklyn. His first location in Park Slope opened in 2017, his second location in Cobble Hill in 2019, and his third location in Downtown Brooklyn in 2024. Evan loves everything about My Gym. From talking to the customers to connecting with every child and making them smile, Evan is always around should you have any doubts or concerns. He looks forward to meeting you and your little one someday!
Vanessa has been working for the My Gym franchise now for many years as a head teacher connecting with not only the children, but also each mother, father, sibling, and nanny. She is very excited to take all of those experiences and bring them to My Gym Park Slope. She can’t wait to meet all our new friends, putting a smile on their faces, and watching each child individually develop and build confidence that will help to guide them through life. Ever since Vanessa was a little girl, she would pretend she was a teacher and her three younger siblings were her students. For hours, she would help teach them how to spell their names, how to tie their shoes, and together, they would work on basic math skills such as how to add and subtract. Her mother, who is a teacher in early childhood education, helped inspire Vanessa to become a teacher, which she absolutely loves! To her, teaching has always been a passion, but the love she has for our current generation of children helping make a difference is what she stays true to. Vanessa believes building confidence in every child is just as important as generating trust. She bases most of her teaching style around those things. She is also a firm believer on imagination, creativity, exploration, and fun! Born and raised in New York City, Vanessa is proud to be of mixed ethnicities. A couple of years later, Evan decided to open his My Gym in Brooklyn and invited Vanessa to become his Executive Director, and here we are today! Vanessa believes building confidence in every child is just as important as generating trust. As a mother, she understands the importance of promoting imagination, creativity, exploration, fun, fitness, and safety. Vanessa absolutely adores the families in the neighborhood and loves the work she takes on. Vanessa is the perfect person to talk to if you have any questions.
Luis has been working at My Gym Brooklyn for over 6 months now. He fell in love with the job because he has always had a passion for fitness and children, and My Gym gives him the best of both worlds. He loves to be silly with the younger ones and loves to coach the older ones. He also loves to talk to each adult who comes onto the floor and if you have any problems, he is ready to help solve them for you.
Sokhna has been at My Gym for over 3 years now and has fallen in love with teaching the children different skills, arts, and gymnastics! Her childhood coaches (track, softball, dance) are who inspired her passion for working with children and helping them build confidence while learning new skills! Her favorite part is interacting with the children and seeing how much more intelligent they are than most people would think and also the excitement the children get when they learn something new! She plans to grow with the company along with the children which is also another one of her favorite things to see...their growth!
Sara started here in the Summer of 2021 and knew that it was the right place for her. Ever since she was 3 years old, she knew that she one day wanted to work with children because she was able to see what her teachers were able to do with her. As an aspiring teacher, she loves to help the little ones learn and develop new skills. Her favorite part of working at My Gym is watching each child break out of their shells and show their true colors and personalities while doing so. She is very excited to get to know everyone in the building between new and old members because she looks at everyone as a big My Gym Brooklyn family!
Stanley became a lead teacher at My Gym in October of 2022. For his birthday, he decided he wanted to start a new chapter in his life, and when he stumbled upon My Gym, he knew this opportunity would be perfect. Stanley’s smiles are contagious, and his love for teaching shows whenever he’s on the gym floor. Stanley is energetic and super athletic, and I bet you didn’t know he was once a wrestler! He loves to spread love and enjoys working with children of all ages. Feel free to ask Stanley anything you like!
