My Gym was born out of our passion to teach children in a fun, physically engaging environment. We delighted in seeing children's eyes light up for all those incredible milestones, from the tentative first steps to tumbling down soft mats. Sharing the parents’ excitement at their children’s accomplishments was the high point of our day.
Picture this: In 1983, three fitness enthusiasts—Yacov, Susi Sherman, and Bill Caplin—redefined children's fitness by blending dance, gymnastics, and athletics. That's the birth of My Gym! Their mission: create a space just for kids—no more sharing mom's or dad's gym, but My Gym. With backgrounds in dance, gymnastics, and athletics, they crafted a unique fitness curriculum focused on non-competitive skill building for ages 6 weeks to 14 years. Fast forward: Cory and Monique turned My Gym into a franchise sensation in 1994. The success was undeniable, growing from 100 kids to over 400 in a year. Now a global phenomenon, My Gym is consistently ranked the #1 children's program worldwide.

Hi Hi How do you do?!
I’m Katie Pekarek, and I’m super excited to bring My Gym Children’s Fitness Center to Lakeville, MN. I fell in love with My Gym back in 2011 at the Eden Prairie location. It's all about fun fitness, confidence, and social growth!
I attended University of Minnesota for my B.A. in Dance and when I graduated, dove into My Gym. In 2015, my family and I moved back to my home state, Colorado, where I continued my My Gym journey in Highlands Ranch. I also worked as a Regional Aerobics Director, opening six clubs and leading fitness teams. Plus, I spent six years as the Young People’s Director, organizing events and programs. I’ve been teaching Zumba Fitness since 2013 and got my CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification to help others in emergencies. Before returning to Minnesota, I helped open a Children’s Fitness Center in Colorado as their director. Movement is my passion!
We're thrilled to be back in Lakeville—a perfect mix of city access and outdoor fun! We’re ready to leap into our own My Gym adventure!
When I'm not at My Gym, I’m outdoors with my family or traveling. We love skiing and hitting the mountains!
