My Gym was born out of our passion to teach children in a fun, physically engaging environment. We delighted in seeing children's eyes light up for all those incredible milestones, from the tentative first steps to tumbling down soft mats. Sharing the parents’ excitement at their children’s accomplishments was the high point of our day.
Picture this: In 1983, three fitness enthusiasts—Yacov, Susi Sherman, and Bill Caplin—redefined children's fitness by blending dance, gymnastics, and athletics. That's the birth of My Gym! Their mission: create a space just for kids—no more sharing mom's or dad's gym, but My Gym. With backgrounds in dance, gymnastics, and athletics, they crafted a unique fitness curriculum focused on non-competitive skill building for ages 6 weeks to 14 years. Fast forward: Cory and Monique turned My Gym into a franchise sensation in 1994. The success was undeniable, growing from 100 kids to over 400 in a year. Now a global phenomenon, My Gym is consistently ranked the #1 children's program worldwide.

I began my journey with the My Gym Franchise back in 2007, right here in beautiful Santa Barbara. I attended Santa Barbara City College before transferring north to complete my studies at Sacramento State, where I earned my B.A. in Journalism. I’m originally from Fairfield, CA — home of the Jelly Belly Factory! #FunFact While in college, I worked at My Gym Elk Grove, and after graduating, I spent over two incredible years at Hume Lake Christian Camps. What started as a single summer job turned into a life-changing experience. During my time there, I founded a dance company called 10:31, which allowed me to blend creativity, community, and mentorship in new ways. In 2012, I made my way back to Santa Barbara and rejoined the My Gym family as the Director. During that time, I helped develop our very own dance program—one of our most beloved additions! While I’ve always been passionate about everything My Gym represents, the dance program held a special place in my heart because it provided a space for young dancers to grow, express themselves, and discover confidence in a safe and supportive environment. In early 2020, I said goodbye to My Gym Santa Barbara to take some time to rediscover myself and explore new opportunities. I moved to Nashville, where—ironically enough—I ended up working at the My Gym Brentwood location. Life truly has a way of coming full circle! Then the pandemic hit, and like so many others, I found myself reflecting, adapting, and growing. Fast forward a year and a half later, and I returned to Santa Barbara—this time as the owner of My Gym! It’s been a wild and wonderful journey, and I’m beyond grateful to be back home sharing my passion for My Gym with this incredible community. “My Gym has always been a passion of mine ever since I started working here. I’m so excited to share that passion with all of you. Get ready—because we’re back, and we’re ready for you!” When I’m not at the gym, you can usually find me walking my husky, Odyn, around town. She’s super friendly—so if you see us, please say hi! Our team loves hearing your My Gym stories, and we can’t wait to meet all the new faces joining our family.
Having grown up at My Gym, I’m thrilled to now be teaching classes, leading games, and—most importantly—going in the back office without getting yelled at! I split my time between teaching at the gym and UCSB, and when I’m not here, you’ll find me making some good sounds in the jazz band, staying fit in the gym, or gaming online with friends. I’m all about dry, witty humor, so don’t be afraid to test out a few timeless dad jokes on me for a laugh. I can’t wait to have you back in the gym with me, but until then: make it a My Gym day!
Hi y'all! I happened onto MyGym my senior year of college by complete accident! I wandered into their Monday meeting one day where I first met Coach Charles and Coach Jack. Ever since that fateful day in 2022, MyGym has been my absolute favorite job! I truly appreciate both the kiddos and grown-ups alike- being a part of each other's lives is a blessing to me. I am a 5th generation Californian on my paternal grandmother's side! I went to UCSB and I haven't any desire to leave even though I am from the gorgeous Monterey Bay Area (okay actually Salinas lol). So feel free to ask me for travel recs if you're ever headed up our central coast!
My journey at My Gym began in May 2024, driven by a desire to help and guide kids toward becoming their best selves. Every class has become an experience of mutual learning… While I serve as a mentor, each student teaches me something new about my own perspective and capabilities. This mentorship builds upon my background in competitive cheerleading, where I previously coached and instructed young athletes in a sport I remain deeply passionate about. Outside of the gym, my commitment to connection extends to the community through my work in media. I also work at the local news station for KEYT and on Telemundo, where I pursue a lifelong passion for learning people’s stories. I firmly believe that we can all learn something from someone. We all have a story worth hearing. Life is a journey, and I strive to embrace each moment through presence, spreading love, and a consistent smile. I am incredibly grateful that the My Gym family allows me to be authentic, funny, and to learn each day from the children, staff, and families around me.
I am so excited to be part of the MyGym community! When I'm not at the gym I am a UCSB student studying biology. My hobbies and interests include reading, running, and musical theater. I absolutely love sharing laughs and stories with every kid, parent, and community member I get to meet through MyGym and I'm grateful for every day here.
